ARXX are crying in the carwash on tour with Fletcher

Brighton power duo ARXX shared their first single of the year, ‘Crying In The Carwash’, last month – this month, they embark on an exciting EU and UK tour, where they’ll be supporting coveted American pop star Fletcher. They tell us all about it after the jump…

[GC]: Hi guys! How are you doing?
[ARXX]: We’ve just been lying on the beach in Spain, so we are very good right now!

Firstly, I want to talk about your first single of the year, ‘Crying In The Carwash’. We absolutely loved it here at The Rodeo. What has the reaction from fans been like?
Well firstly, thanks so much!  The reaction has been really lovely; as a song it’s emotional and euphoric. When you’re able to be vulnerable with an audience it makes the connection stronger.

You worked with long-term collaborator Steven Ansell on the track, as well as Katie Tavini. What was this collaborative experience like?
Working with Steve and Katie is always a joy. The relationship we have between each other is almost telepathic at this point. We owe so much to them for actualising our sound.

The track is a celebration of when you found out you were supporting one of your musical heroes, MUNA. How did that tour come about?
Still to this day we don’t really know. Our agents are amazing and have got us some amazing opportunities, but it still feels like a dream.

How did the man in the car wash react when you started crying to him?
He was very confused; I don’t think he realises he has a song about him now!

The music video for the track, created by Rosie Powell, is brilliant and features loads of your friends. How did that come together?
We had the vision and we nearly always work on videos with Rosie because she’s so talented and is so good at bringing our ideas to life. Lucky for us all of our friends are queer and hot!

Megan from crysometimes features in the video. Do you have anything in the works with them for the future?
Megan from crysometimes is one of our good friends. They’re insanely talented – Hanni and Megan have been talking about writing together for a while so maybe one day that will happen!

You’ve had a busy year, supporting the likes of Yungblud, MUNA, Gaz Coombes and The Vamps, and now you are about to support Fletcher. How are you feeling ahead of this tour?
Tired! We’re so excited to be a part of the Fletcher tour, we’re getting to go to places we have never played before and doing the thing we love. It’s a real dream come true.

There have been many highs but also some lows, including Hanni needing surgery to have a polyp removed from their throat, rendering them unable to speak/sing for a couple of weeks, just a matter of weeks before the tour with Fletcher begins. How did you overcome this hurdle?
It was a rollercoaster for a while! But with these things you’ve just got to keep going and we felt really lucky that it didn’t mean calling off the tour.

Luckily, the tour is still going ahead, so for fans who are attending one of the shows, what should they expect from your set?
We always want our set to be fun and gay. So, mainly expect that.

Festival season is also approaching. Last year saw you perform at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, 2000 Trees, London Pride and The Great Escape. What have you got in store for this year?
We’re taking a bit of time to write, rest and recuperate this summer, as we’ve just announced our headline tour for October/ November.  But we will be popping up at a few that we’re really excited about!

And following ‘Crying In The Carwash’, have you got any plans to release further music this year?
….

Hint taken. Finally, is there anything else you want to tell us about, or shout out?
We have a headline tour on sale now! We’d love to see you there.

You can buy tickets for ARXX’s headline tour here.
