First Rodeo: Annika Kilkenny shares her ‘firsts’

Today, Irish singer songwriter Annika Kilkenny has released her stunning new project, Me In The Mud. But, before she got to this point, she had to break the ice: write the first song, play the first show. So, we caught up with her to find out about her ‘firsts’.

First Song You Wrote: The first song I wrote was called ‘blaming it on the movies’ and was about how being a teenager is nothing like it’s made out to be in the films. Classic.

First Live Performance: I feel like I have two different live performance firsts. My first ever gig was opening for Katie Phelan in Workmans Cellar Dublin when I was 18. I was terrified but I remember it being such a lovely gig. But technically speaking, my first live performance was in the summer showcase of a stage school I was apart of when I was 4. Safe to say it gave me the bug for music and performance.

First Official Concert: I think it was the X-Factor live tour the year Little Mix won. Went and sang ‘Wings’ like my life depended on it. 2012 thank you for existing.

First Festival: Live at Leeds in the City! It was both the first festival I went to as well as the first festival I played. Such a fun city and very sick experience.

First Headline Show: My first headline show was in Cleere’s in my hometown, Kilkenny, and was the first of three Irish headline dates. It was sold out and so sweet! My whole family were there and a few friends and their families had come down too. Just a wholesome, fab night.
