The Round-Up (29/07/22)

Bored of listening to the same old stuff? Well, strap in, buckle down and hold on because It’s time for some new tunes…

Plains – Problem With It

Waxahatchee and Jess Williams form a formidable country duo, and ‘Problem With It’ is just an amuse bouche for what is going to be one of the year’s best albums. Stick around for this ride, partner.

Also new this week…

Why Bonnie – 90 in November
Hazy summer sounds blend with autumnal melancholy in this dreamy track from Why Bonnie. Around either side of the edgy bridge, guitars and vocals evoke an achey sort of nostalgia; it’s emotive and it’s beautiful. Why am I crying… why, Bonnie?

Flowers Of Evil – Mix The Floor
From expansive ambience to motorik dance, Flowers Of Evils’ new single ‘Mix The Floor’ covers more ground than a busy Megabus heading back North. Based on a surreal dream, the track beats its way through seven minutes of class electro pop. Anyone for a boogie?

Avery Lynch – Sleepover
Avery Lynch delivers a delightful piece of punchy pop on ‘Sleepover’ that evokes images of long summer nights spent in front of the TV with the people you care about most. There’s something sweetly nostalgic about Lynch’s lyrics, while musically, the song follows a dinstinctly modern indie-pop style.

Well – Wisher Panic
Smooth, movie-soundtrack indie for all your main character needs. The chorus borders on laid-back pop-punk as Well Wisher grapple with feeling unmotivated and that tituar sense of panic. By the end, guitars and drums alike are thrashing as we move further from the calm beginings of the song into more chaotic realms.

Tess Henley – Good for Me
Tess Henley has the latest antitode to your mid-week blues with the soulful pop sounds of ‘Good For Me’. Prepare yourself for that high note towards the end – Henley has a really special voice.

April – 54321
April continues to impress (even in late July). Threading UK Garage and drum’n’bass, ‘54321’ represents an artist taking a bold new direciton. We stan it.

Cures & Curses – Empty Love
Returning with the lead single of his upcoming EP, Cures & Curses offers up a relatable and gut-wrenching honesty coupled with his alt-pop sound. Akpojaro must want to re-break everyones hearts again, but even still the best is still to come in the forthcoming EP.

EFÉ – Loving Girl
Taken from the upcoming EP Vitamin C, which will arrive on August 3rd, ‘Loving Girl’ is a heartfelt call to give a relationship a go. With slow, swaying rhythms, a killer chorus melody and top all-round vocal performance, this one’s a ‘lighters in the air’ moment.
