Tally Spear talks first times and Hilary Duff

First song you remember listening to…
‘Blackbird’ by The Beatles. My dad used to play it to me on the guitar before I went to sleep!

First record you ever bought…
Hilary Duff as a kid! I was obsessed with her.

First band you ever saw live…
Um, Hilary Duff….?

First song you ever wrote…
‘Let it Out’ when I was about 11 years old, it was about letting your feelings out through music. Cringe.

First instrument you played…
The recorder. Where every great musician’s career begins.

I always feel like there are multiple parts of myself and this is a track where I try and bring them together.

First gig you ever played…
Singing ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ with my band at a local summer fair.

What can you tell us about the new single, ‘Scatterbrain’?
It’s about two sides of yourself… almost like an argument between your ‘Scatterbrain’ and your real brain. I always feel like there are multiple parts of myself and this is a track where I try and bring them together.

What was the songwriting process like?
It was very quick and honest in this instance, it just all flowed out in one evening after getting home from a trip away.

What influenced the song?
Losing stuff. I had left my luggage on the train on the way home from a trip to Dublin, and then I lost my favourite hat a few weeks later, in a hat museum in Bristol?! Ridiculous.

What does this represent in your musical journey so far?
It represents the theme of self conflict, self analysis and honesty surrounding mental struggles and the fight to overcome them.

Tally Spear’s new single, ‘Scatterbrain’ is out now. Listen on Spotify and Apple.
