March doesn’t just bring new life, her alt-folk EP can bring you to the brink of the atmosphere in all its glory and light.
For a solo performer, March brings out harmonies of a thousand voices, each mouth bringing a breath of fresh air for folk rock. With the new EP, Wear Me Down, when listening you close your eyes and can feel the rain pour through the window behind you, while the vibrations of her guitar sway your coffee steam. The cosiness of her voice just brings you into her stories throughout, and the clarity you feel, it’s protective.
A personal favourite lies within ‘A Hold On Me’, the paced guitar and vocals, resembling a soft Birdy, you become encased in her struggles and delve inside her love. It’s perfect music to listen to when awake at 3 am, through the glimmer of a new sunrise. ‘I’ll Stay’ and ‘Help Myself’ showcase her ability to take things slow, but also get your heart racing, and with the gentle instrumentals, her soft but powerful voice wraps its melodies around your brain.
After listening and relistening, I can’t help but hold the ambient sounds in my head and as much as I wish I could sing along as beautifully as March, I don’t want to butcher her beautiful EP. Now, I truly know my new favourite month in the calendar.
