When trios turn to quartets it often adds to the live performance more than anything else. Whenyoung’s literal growth into a four-piece has unleashed lead singer Aoife Power, relieving her of bass duties and allowing her to follow in the footsteps of many contemporary bands, where the singer is tasked with singing, dancing and interacting with the crowd. She does this well and looks freer without the bass around her neck.
A well-choreographed light show controlled the mood and the Irish band showed off their debut album with a strut in front of a labouring Tuesday night crowd, who seemed happy to just be out of the rain. Whenyoung had to graft for the crowd’s gratitude but they eventually won the battle.
