Round-Up

The Round-Up (11/10/19)

We’ve done it again: all the best new tracks from the last week have been round-up right here in one place. Don’t say we’re not good to you.

Biig Piig – Roses and Gold
Biig Piig’s reliably smooth and mellow vibes have become something to really look forward to. Bringing her Spanish back into the lyrics here, ‘Roses and Gold’ is another fantastic example of this rising artist’s budding talent.

Big Thief – Forgotten Eyes
On rainy days, edging towards darkness by 4 pm, cosy up with a generous mug of soup and some Big Thief. ‘Forgotten Eyes’ is a perfect addition to your autumn soundtrack.

Cigarettes After Sex – Falling In Love
These guys have released some truly mystical, sad tunes over the last couple years, but this may be the sweetest, gentlest one of all. It feels like swaying in the arms of a lover, relaxing into a clean duvet and taking a candle-lit bath all at once. Fuzzy and delicious.

Dream Nails – Corporate Realness
A nice big F#$* you to your boss and all those hours should have been paid. When it comes to office culture there’s plenty to shout about, and Dream Nails have summed it up perfectly.

Elbow – White Noise White Heat
Packing more bite behind their bark, Elbow are definitely taking it up a gear from their usual husky love ballads. Getting gritty and I’m here for it.

Girl Ray – Girl
Flirty and fun, I love everything about this, including the chimes. Especially the chimes.

Nick Mulvey – Into The Anthropocene
Mulvey’s back and it’s everything you hoped it would be; the drums behind that unmistakable guitar talent add a gloriously subtle depth to this new track. A hopeful and beautiful address to the current state of the Earth, welcome back, Nick.

No Rome – Talk Nice
Always thought No Rome could be a bit hit-and-miss, but he’s sure as hell hit it here. ‘Talk Nice’ is less predictable and more intricate than what we’ve previously heard from the Filipino musician, and very, very catchy.

Plastic Barricades – One For The Road
Beautiful South esque track that is, well… just.. okay. A bit like a just alright curry, it sits fine in your stomach – you know tomorrow won’t be full of stomach ache – but it needs something more. My tastebuds are yet to tingle. (P.S. That vocal line needs some reverb slapping on it and a good techy to do it any justice.)

Tom Walker – Better Half of Me
Big ole fashioned love letter, can picture him serenading some girl on a date with this (romantic? uncomfortable?). A little vanilla, but good at what it’s aiming for.
