The Round-Up (01/11/19)

Pinch, punch, first of the month.

Beach Bunny – Dream Boy
Fresh as hand-picked strawberries, Beach Bunny continue their confident entrance onto the scene. Announcing their upcoming debut album, ‘Dream Boy’ is bursting with a fiery energy that will surely invite their audience to the good things lying ahead. Bring on that debut.

Beans on Toast – England I Love You
Despite its morbid painting of the UK’s current state, this tune is sinfully cheerful. Trust Beans On Toast.

Calva Louise – Sleeper
Based on Carlos Castaneda’s 1993 book, ‘The Art of Dreaming’, Calva Louise’s latest track transports the listener somewhere in the technological future; the metaphysical questions and musings are set nicely against bursting, confident riffs and beats.

HAIM – Now I’m In It
A fantastic new release from HAIM – rolling lyrics consistent with a running inner monologue, ‘Now I’m In It’ is a delicately beautiful portrayal of living with depression. Check out the video, too, these ladies really know what they’re doing – click here.

Robbie Williams – Merry Xmas Everybody
Come on Robbie mate, it’s November. Really?

Sigrid – Home To You
God, this tune makes it feel like Christmas is just around the corner. In Sigrid’s cozy vocals, you can just picture the cheesy advert; lovers exchanging presents and scrawling the heartfelt lyrics on to the labels. For someone with a Grinch-like heart, it brings such a warm fuzzy feeling that’ll get you through that chilly British winter.

Tame Impala – It Might Be Time
It’s not quite got the same easy-listening element you might need to nurse a Halloween hangover, but there’s something about this track that I really like. Dipping in and out of its own groove, ‘It Might Be Time’ packs a bit of a punch as Tame Impala tells it like it is.

The Howlers – Matador
Oddly atmospheric, this song paints a curious picture of business being seen to. A great leading guitar melody, backed by crashing drums and a sparing amount of vocals. Nicely done.

The K’s – Aurora
Dexter’s bass line is like the heartbeat providing the blood to the muscle of those psychedelic guitar solos, and the melodious lyrics can’t help but stick in the mind of the listener. The K’s are on fire with this heavier new track.

Tourists – Align
Their first track in two years, Tourists have added another stand-alone single to the catalogue, and it certainly seems this break has done them well. Clear development from the quintet: welcome back.
