Track of the Week – The Blinders – Forty Days and Forty Nights
C’mon, it wouldn’t be The Blinders without an in ya face anthem that’ll raise your BPM to record levels. There’s an enchanting evil in their eyes and a blistering bassline in their hands. Punk isn’t dead kids it’s living in the bloodstream of The Blinders.
Alex Jayne – 90’s Dream
In it’s rhythmic beats and shoegaze-esque guitar, Jayne paints a rose-tinted movie scene. Easing on past relationships, the song plays out beautifully like a setting sun; glowing until it’s over.
Brian Fallon – I Don’t Mind (If I’m With You)
Brian’s gearing up to release his version of Nebraska, but it appears he’s slowly been releasing the entire record song by song. The latest isn’t the best of the bunch so far, but it’s still genuine Fallon, pulling at your heartstrings with every passing stanza. Something special is a-brewin’.
Dizzy – Sunflower
Showing the power of a boomerang in the lyric video, Dizzy pull the humour and human from inside their emotion. It’s tender talking over breezy instrumental feels like an ode to that early 2000s confidence, a summer of Unwritten and Torn. A dreamy tune to say ‘you can do this.’
Document – The Spy Who Came in From The Cold
Modern Mark E. Smith vocals pierce through Document’s sinister single. The 5-piece have come out with their guns blazing, their visceral guitar riffs bringing a looming feeling of exciting unease. A darkness you want to get lost in. If the spy just came in from the cold, this track will warm them right up.
KAHLLA – In The Morning
A feeling we’ve all feel; wanting something so badly, only to get it and realise it’s not enough. Gentle ivory keys play up to an emotional crescendo in KAHLLAs’s vocals, a beautiful heartbreak. A song that hits you at just the right moment in your life, and falls deeper into your heart and adoration.
Katie Von Schleicher – Caged Sleep
Hazy vocals, hazy synth, and a hazy memory after you get lost in its dreamy melody.
Jess Williamson – Wind on Tin
As you can tell from our socials – we adore this track. Oozing of cosmic country, Williamson creates a home away from home. A lyrical comfort that creates blue skies far and wide and brings that summer warmth in the middle of Spring.
Phoebe Bridgers – Garden Song
Oh, Phoebe. How I’ve missed thee. Not that you haven’t kept busy, but reflective, solo Phoebe just hits me right in the feels. If this is a sign of things to come, we’ve got an album of the year contender ahead of us. That video’s a fucking head-scratcher though.
Reminders – Carousel
They’re a self-proclaimed, beach-punk trio and damn, does their latest single bop. ‘Carousel’ calls to mind sunny skies, ocean waves and boardwalks – it’s basically California compacted into three rowdy minutes. I’m into it.
The Naked and Famous – Come As You Are
A polar opposite to the Nirvana grunge track of the same name and thank god for that! Filled with a bubbling innocence, the indie-electro Kiwi’s just stun with Come As You Are. Makes me blush just as much as if they WERE naked and famous.
