“Let’s just listen to the true messiah and enjoy”

Andi Fins is a Berlin-based singer, song-writer, and producer – so an all around talented guy. With his album Whatever Works out today, he took time out of his day to curate the perfect playlist showing who inspired his musical journey.

Wendy&Lisa

When I was a teenager I discovered Wendy&Lisa on a mix tape which was lying around in the band rehearsal space. I fell in love with ‘Are You My Baby?’ immediately and by that time it was the sexiest song I’ve ever heard. They are great musicians and they’ve been doing great music and records. I still adore specially Lisa’s keyboard playing.

Prefab Sprout

I had to paint whole staircases and polish huge surfaces in a youth hostel for civilian service and Prefab Sprout was with me all the time. Saved my life.

The Police

Coolest band on earth.
Ever and forever. Sting is brilliant, sure, but I’ve always been a Police fan in the first place. I collected bootlegs and I think I watched every video and live recording even before the internet was invented.

Mac DeMarco

Coolest artist alive.
I saw a concert last year in Berlin. Just a real guy writing fantastic songs and fucking the common show biz.
I don’t really know but in my imagination the US is packed with good music which is actually heard by lots of people there and bands like these have an own so called ‘market’ they run independently from any major influence. That’s great.

Whitney

So good. I’m glad I was introduced to that band a couple of years ago. I like the voice and the easy going songs and the vibe. Take a break on any bench in town and enjoy the peace and Whitney whenever possible.

Whitney Housten

She was there before. I don’t really know if they know. Well, yes, maybe they are aware of her and don’t care. That’s fair enough, but I love her, too.

Queen

Queen was the band in my childhood. They came from a different planet and landed in the middle of my room. Specially these old songs from ‘A Day at the Races’ and ‘A Night in the Opera’ are music history. Freddy must have been a crazy dude from somewhere else. I’ll never understand how he wrote ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ without any computers.

Madonna

That’s such a funny video. The queen of pop dancing so sweet to one of her first songs. No one knew what there would be coming out of her in the future back then. But she knew it already, she killed them all. It looks great. I still have the speakers from the 80s which my father bought. I used to turn them very, very loud with her record playing and now i still use them for my recordings.

Sting

Maybe my most played song ever. This piano solo is outstanding. A few years ago i looked up different versions of this song from this particular world tour on youtube and it turned out that the one i knew from the live record was not some kind of a special day happening once in a life time with a special solo moment. No. Kenny Kirkland played like hell every single night. Every version i heard was killing me. This is just unbelievable. It was the opening song for the tour every day in front of a several thousand people and he did this like it was nothing. So funny and funky and brave in his very own style. God bless him.

Keith Jarret

And here is nothing more to say. Let’s just listen to the true messiah and enjoy.
