NO MILKSHAKES YET, THE TRUMP TAKE-DOWN IS HAPPENING ELSEWHERE

Hello, good people of the internet. TJ, The Rodeo’s official American Correspondent, here with another report from the Divided States of America. “Are you looking for another white man with a chip on his shoulder?” Boy, do I have the guy for you! He knows what you want. And he’ll give you a reason to live.

In the “Dark Age of Trump” as it will be known in future history books, we snowflake musicians seem to take one of two paths when releasing new music: directly grandstanding our political frustrations through seditious lyrics and/or videos, or avoiding singing about the issues altogether to give listeners a much needed break from the guy. David Brewis of Field Music has opted for the former by releasing an entire album, under his solo moniker School of Language, about our doofus-in-chief.

45 is more like a South Park episode than a traditional protest record, but from over here in the States, it’s also inherently depressing. It’s a bit of a repetitive listen, but then again so is Trump. Most of the lyrics sound like something he has directly stated, or tweeted, and the fact it could really go either way says something. The record’s funk instrumentation and carefree melodies add a sense of whimsy to songs about a man best described as the opposite of whimsical. But there’s only so much one can laugh off when the stakes are as high as they are. If you can somehow stomach hearing about the man for another 30 minutes, this ain’t a bad way to do it. May as well take a break from watching the world burn and have yourself a dance… I think Batman said that?
