Track of the Week
Courtney Marie Andrews – It Must Be Someone Else’s Fault
Courtney Marie Andrews’ voice is wise beyond its years, and it carries this breezy, Americana tune steadily down the ol’ dirt highway. As the third near-perfect single released from her upcoming record, it’s clear she’s about to drop something pretty damn special.
Bruno Major – Figment Of My Mind
Bruno’s got a lovely voice. I’ve been raging about some flight refunds for days now and he’s calmed me right down. Could probably calm a raging bull that bloke. He’s silky smooth, just check out ‘Figment Of My Mind’.
Death Valley Girls – Breakthrough
Yikes. We’ve got ourselves a stomper! ‘Breakthrough’ would make a great needle drop moment in a film. It’d fit one of those scenes where the main protagonist prepares for sweet revenge; you know, the ones where they suit up, zip up and clench their fists before getting in their muscle car and gunning it down the interstate – or the M6 if you’re reading this in the UK.
Eades – Forget What You Want
Leeds’ Eades – that’s a mouthful – have delivered us a slice of summer in new release ‘Forget What You Want’. It’s a flirtatious, modern take on garage rock with a refreshing twist, and it’s making me mourn the loss of beer gardens. Someone pass me a pint. Anyone?
Emma Swift – I Contain Multitudes
Emma Swift has managed to release a cover of Bob Dylan’s new song, ‘I Contain Multitudes’ in just a month, and it’s ace. Swift’s country-inspired route matches the original’s soothing tone whilst her vocals remain flawless throughout – I dare say it’s the most accessible version of the two.
Joyce Manor – Housewarming Party
Utter punk carnage. It’s just over a minute of full tongue-and-cheek gnawing fit for a sweaty living room mosh pit. People are gonna be head banging to this one at grunge-y house parties once quarantine ends. Yee-gnaw.
The Lemon Twigs – Moon
The D’Addario kids have got it made. This track opens like a song by The Boss and kicks shit like Roxy Music.
The Jungle Giants – Sending Me Ur loving (Tom Trago remix)
This is a perfect deck chair song. I thought I’d move my isolation desk into the garden because I need the Vitamins C. Put this little number on and seconds later my home-made margarita was in the air. Wait, no, my glass of water was in the air sorry…
Midlife – Rare Air
This gives me good feelings. Feelings that don’t come often in a global pandemic. Feelings that make me want to zone out for a bit and forget the world around me. Thank you Midlife. I needed that.
Protomartyr – Michigan Hammers
Another blinding track from Protomartyr here with some insane work on the skins by Alex Leonard – he must’ve been knackered by the end of this.
Widowspeak – Breadwinner
Widowspeak return with their first release since 2017. ‘Breadwinner’ is a celestial track, with a shoegazey atmosphere that’s reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Seven Wonders’. It’s that lovely space between sultry and dreamy, with Molly Hamilton’s vocals acting as lynchpin for all the parts to orbit in a very beautiful gravity.
feeo – Yeti
‘Yeti’ by feeo is the musical equivalent of turning your quilt over to the cold side during a hot night. It soothes and relaxes you with it’s velvet jazz and RnB vibes whilst feeo’s vocals provide a nice breeze coming in from outside.
