A
tie-dye top wearing bassist, a keyboardist with hair that’s almost as long as the 2-hour set, a singer who’s facial expressions are so extreme it’s as if the music has demonised the poor lad, and a drummer who’s seemingly been
picked out of a college chemistry class. They ain’t the smoothest, coolest
looking bunch, but their tunes certainly make up for their lack of style. Contemporary jazz, blues,
Afropop, punk, hell anything that has been deemed critically cool since the
birth of music is infused to generate a special sound straight from the deep
south, America’s music hub, Austin, Texas. What they lack in the geek-chic
performance abilities of say a Ben Gibbard or Matt Berninger, White Denim
certainly make up for in their rousing instrumentals, relentless pace and
worldly influences.
