Anteros shoot for the stars on debut LP, When We Land, but ultimately, they fail
to ever even take off. It’s fine. Just fine. There’s a lack of substance
to the songs, a lack of purpose or meaning. ‘After Glow’ shows their potential
for writing fiery choruses, but this is an exception to the relative rule as
the record explodes into life for just a moment before running out of fuel. These songs fail to ever really pack a
punch, whilst there’s a severe lack of coherency throughout the album. It’s all stuff we’ve heard
before and as a result, it fails to leave any mark. On the occasions Anteros
flirt with disco tinges, it improves, but they never really go for it, at all,
at any point on the album, you always feel like something has been left in the locker, whether that be with the disco sounds or the anthemic
choruses that are vital to any pop record. It just feels a little flat all the
way through.
