Rock ‘n’ roll with a country flick. Put on your hard hat and worker’s uniform and start dancing, it’s the summer party at Satis Factory and you’re all invited. This year’s venue? Gorilla in Manchester, for tonight at least. Whether it’s country sounds, low-fi rock’n’roll or 60s garage you’re into, you’ll have a good time.
There’s only one person that’ll rule the dance-floor however, and that’s Mattiel herself. There’s a smooth swagger to her, a floating freeness as she drifts around in her worker’s clobber. The high-vis strips are there, but they ain’t necessary, your eyes are fixated on her performance.
Her band are cool, as you’d expect. Each song is lifted higher with an added solo or extended outro but she’s the Queen and King of this joint tonight, as you’d expect.
Cinematic and hardcore, everyone’s left screaming, cheering, waving, wooing, wooping, as Manchester salutes Atlanta’s finest export.
