Guilty Pleasure Anonymous: Kylie Minogue

Hello I’m Natasha and I’m a Kylie-aholic.

Let’s rewind back the years together and see 5-year-old me. Ask her who her current favourite artist is and she’ll reply with “Kylie Minogue!” I’m not sure where this obsession with the Aussie singer came from, I certainly wasn’t alive in prime Kylie era of the late 80s and early 90s, but nonetheless, she’s always been a guilty pleasure of mine.

Even now, if you take a trip in my car, you will more often than not find that the CD playing will be the 1992 absolute-belter-of-an-album Kylie: Greatest Hits. Caus’ why listen to one album when you can have all of her best tracks on one CD-ROM right? I have vivid memories of me in my younger years flouncing around the garden to ‘Tears on my Pillow’ pretending to be in an incredibly sad and powerful music video. In reality, it was just me walking around looking mopey with my little mushroom haircut that I had at the time. Thanks Mum.

You cannot beat the power of a Kylie bop, there is a song for every occasion, every moment and feeling you’ll ever have. She’s got you covered. Here are some examples: it’s your birthday, listen to ‘Celebrate’, you’ve just been cheated on, listen to ‘It’s No Secret’, reunited with a lover, ‘Especially for You’, looking for an absolute tune, ‘Locomotion’, feeling saucy, ‘Better the Devil You Know’. She’s really a doctor of emotions, hence why she is my guilty music pleasure.

So if you ever can’t find me I’ll be off somewhere in my gold hot pants dancing the night away singing along to ‘I should be so Lucky’ – to be fair you really are lucky if you’ve got Kylie along with you. I’ll leave you with this one because I know already that you’ll sing it at some point today now.
