The title is always an important aspect of the album. I’ve never been a huge fan of self-titled records. They make some sort of sense for debuts of course, but I prefer it when the band pick a title that truly encapsulates that one body of work.
Snoh Aalegra probably agrees with me, as Ugh, those feels again, are the only four words going around your head as you listen. It’s just pure vibes man, pure vibes. It sure as hell ain’t something I’d whack on when my earphones are plugged into my skull but, pop it on the speaker whilst you lie in the sun and Bob is your darn uncle.
I did find myself zoning out and switching off at points. This isn’t necessarily a criticism, however. The album is hypnotic. It’s like those days lying on the beach in the baking sun, where time fasts forwards and the sun rises and sets in 10 minutes because it has you under control.
Aalegra brings you in and out of consciousness with those ugh, those feels. Again.
Ps. ‘Find Someone Like You’ stands out like a sore thumb and is just a great song.
