Benjamin Spike Saunders – Delicate
A really noice sound. A bit sad, a bit melancholic, it’s one of those tunes you like to play to remind you that you’re a human. Shit happens.
David Hasselhoff – Head On
Head On? More like head’s gone. Didn’t even realise Hasselhoff was still going/alive to be honest.
Dominic Sen – Natural History
I went to the Natural History Museum seen in the video, and ashamedly paid 50 cents of the suggested $23 dollar entry fee. This oddly gives me the same emotion, I’m getting a quality product for giving next to nothing but my ears. Fun fun fun.
Donovan Woods – Way Way Back
Even if you’ve never heard Donovan Woods (WTF?), you’ve most certainly heard his songwriting. Another Canadian export but in a very different genre – you’ll hear his talents all over mainstream country by way of Nashville. But thankfully for us, he reserves his best stuff for himself. Way Way Back is a heartwarming gem.
Example – Click
It starts off alright, but if Example really did set out to create a ravey pool-side Ibiza tune with lazer effects, well then bravo, mate.
Jack Conman – Feeling Sound Again
If you want your mid-twenties crisis to sound audibly perfect (and a bit sexy), Jack’s your man. Worrying that he keeps crawling in through our ears to steal our actual thoughts fears, but pretty clever that he can make it sound THIS good. You’ll have this on more than once.
Jimmy Eat World – All The Way (Stay)
This song is classic Jimmy Eat World, who remain one of the most consistent bands of our generation. It’s catchy. It’s inviting. And there’s a KILLER surprise at the end! (No spoilers) The leaves are changing, and Jimmy has always been the perfect soundtrack for that. This is no exception.
The Dirty Nil – Idiot Victory
I bet you never thought a three-piece from Canada would be carrying the torch for a guitar-rock revival, but it’s 2019 – anything’s possible. This song is essentially a bonus track on the deluxe edition of last year’s excellent Master Volume – and it shreds, just like the rest of it. As long as these guys don’t start donning black face for their music videos, the revival is in good hands.
The Script – The Last Time
The Script still haven’t just had a wank and gotten over whatever’s been bothering them since 2010.
Vegyn – Nauseous / Devilish
Not sure how to describe this? Love the midway breakdown. Love the use of that bloke doing mad moves in the music video – they need a beer and a bath after that. And, love how it makes me feel. Nice and sleepy, in a good way.
Will Joseph Cook – The Dragon
Took me a second listen to really enjoy it, I’ll admit, but this track hits a sweet spot. Complete with video-game-esque twinkles, ‘The Dragon’ tackles some very real and unnerving realities regarding our current climate crisis, but Cook still manages to keep it sounding cute as heck.
