LASS pick their top 4 venues

The indie scene in the north is an inspiring place. It’s built on small intimate gigs that house independent artists, working hard to share their music and be a part of the live music scene. Over the last 6 months LASS have played quite a few of these venues, cutting their teeth, making moves and winning over fans as they go. And so, we kindly asked them to compile a list of their favourites for both to watching and playing. Read on.

#1 – Whiskey Jar

“First up Manchester, for a mid week slice of music we love the Whiskey Jar; a friendly Open Mic on Tuesday and Wednesday night that is hosted by Joe Bagpies and is renowned for it’s attentive audience.”

#2 – The Castle Hotel

“Second, The Castle Hotel. It has an old-tavern style space and it feels like a step back in time in it’s decor. Yet, it presents some of the newest artists around. We had the privilege of playing our first gig there and it’s definitely set in our minds as a night we won’t forget!”

#3 – Hyde Park Book Club

“Next up, Leeds. This city really shows off with its music venues but Hyde Park Book Club is the quirky venue we love most. The individual personality of this venue is second to none and live music – from the uni students to the pros – is brilliant. Or, for a slightly different kind of evening try out The Domino Club, found in the Grand Arcade. It is a Barber shop by day but a lively Jazz bar by night. Need I say more.”

#4 – Forty Five Vinyl Cafe

“Finally, in York we loved playing the Forty Five Vinyl Cafe. Music is at the core of this venue and you see it all around you in the vast array of artists pictured on the walls. Relaxed and intimate, like a cafe suggests, the set up leaves you feeling like you were in conversation with the artist playing all night.”
