LIVE: THE LEMON TWIGS

Clad in leather and lipstick, sunglasses, long hair and large personalities, the D’Addario brothers walked on stage with purpose. The Riverside was shocked more than anything. Michael’s Iggy Pop-meets-Debbie Harry persona hit out at the crowd with flailing arms parting the air, “who’s gonna fight me?”. I don’t think anyone could, they were untouchable. The band shifted from punk to glam rock as the set went from chaotic primal screaming to delicate melodies and harmonies. It had everything, and that’s exactly what the Twigs have come to be known for. They managed to transform, even just for a moment, Newcastle’s Riverside into Max’s Kansas City. A few anecdotes about the Muppets’ score composer’s fellatio and a trip into the crowd to connect with the audience and you have a truly mind blowing night in the mix. You won’t ever see something quite like that again, Ziggy Stardust spirit and zero shits – goosebumps.
