Hot sun, a Piña colada and a paddling pool, what’s not to love about summer? Fresh off two ice cool debut singles, we asked Common Saints to pick the best tunes for the hottest days of the years.
Common Saints: For me, summer music is all about groove, love and positive energy. I’m a big soul / funk / disco lover so this list is pretty much (so far) my quintessential list of Summer Songs for you to enjoy. This was difficult as it just scratches the surface!
Morcheeba – The Sea (1998)
Absolute classic from the 90’s… This is a holiday in a song. Takes me back to poolside relaxation and Mojitos.
The Isley Brothers – Summer Breeze (1973)
Originally written and performed by Seals and Croft’s, any version of this song needs to be on your summer playlist. Absolutely essential. “Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the Jasmine of my mind” Ya know, that mind jasmine vibe.
Patrice Rushen – Remind Me (1982)
Taken from her album “Straight from the Heart” this is a real deep vibe. Kinda disco / soul. The perfect balance of chill and energy – you can chill and zone out in the heat, or move your feet.
Julio Bashmore – Rhythm of Auld (2015)
This is a tune my friend and collaborator Laville showed me recently: It encapsulates that rise of energy you crave when the party is cooking up nicely.. Sweet blend of old and new, dusty and punchy.
Roy Ayers – Everybody Loves the Sunshine (Demo)
This is a bit of a wild card.. The original is a classic and absolutely essential summer song. This is the original demo.. Same song but raw flavour; Drums are toastier and vocals are smokier, just a pure vibe.
