This is Hull’s finest musical legacy, The New Adelphi Club, an institute with notable alumni such as Pulp, Oasis, The Stone Roses, Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand, Primal Scream, Richard Hawley… and many more as the list goes on. It’s an intimate space, the size – as you can see – of the bottom floor of your average house, on an average street, just off Hull’s bang average Beverley Road.
Yet nearly any big name of the past thirty years and beyond in British music have come through the Adelphi. I’m not joking, even Mumford and Sons for fuck sake. It’s an enigma. It’s one of Hull’s best kept secrets. In the local area it’s the place for new DIY groups to break through. Here, bands gain valuable experience against a tough Hull crowd who are looking for literally anything to do. It’s shabby chic, rough around the edges inside and out, the kinda place your mum worries about you going to.
