LIVE: ART SCHOOL GIRLFRIEND

The vibrations of the synth kept my nose wobbling constantly, the skin on my face forced backwards like a musical botox, the intensity of each track embodying you for every single moment. Polly Mackey’s vocal unapologetically uncharismatic, but in a good way, definitely in a good way. She didn’t care, wearing a hoody and baggy chinos, she didn’t care, and that made the music and performance all the more authentic. The waves of emotion captured by her synth-ridden sounds were felt all across the damp venue, the unpainted walls of Soup Kitchen adding to the mysteriousness of Art School Girlfriend, who ensured not to overstay her welcome, the show, clocking in at just over thirty minutes, was an apt length for a lazy Sunday evening.
