thisisNAMASTE says hello

The Scottish singer infuses futuristic sounds into her pop songs. Her knack for creating concise bangers with dizzying choruses is there for all to see on debut single, ‘Excactly What You Want’.

That’s an interesting name. Can you talk us through it?
Thank you, it was quite simple really, a friend of mine helped me come up with it. The namaste part came to light as my name is Natasha Marie Stewart so Na, Ma, Ste. My great grandad was also Indian and namaste is an Indian greeting so it all fitted in quite nicely.

You worked with Adam Argyle on this, who’s worked with some big names, including Dua Lipa no less. What did you learn from him?
I always learn something new from each writing session I am in. Adam is super talented and it was really great to watch how he worked, especially when we were working on the melodies and lyrics. He was amazing with concepts and ideas and we really clicked. Writing ‘Exactly What You Want’ was super fun and the session just flowed.

It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do and now it feels like the right time to do it.

You cite Mariah Carey and Whitney as inspirations, what drew you to their music?
The vocals! I learned to sing from mimicking the voices I heard on CDs. My mum liked Whitney and used to play her in the house, so I used to try and copy her singing all the big notes.

Touring with Rita Ora, Ella Eyre as a backing singer, what did you learn about the art of live show? How did it feel being a part of these shows?
It was amazing. I was so lucky to be able to work with such talented high energy woman. I learned a lot about showmanship and the art of controlling a crowd. They both did it so differently but both captivated their audiences. I felt very privileged to be apart of the live shows.

My name is Natasha Marie Stewart, so Na, Ma, Ste.

You’re stepping into the limelight now, what made you decide to do this?
It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do and now it feels like the right time to do it. I’ve been working so hard on my music for a long time and now I feel like it’s authentic, and I finally feel ready to share it with everyone. I’m so excited.

Finally, now you’re on your own path, what’s the plan? What can we expect over the coming months?
Music Music and more music! This is just the start and I’m so excited to finally release what I’ve been working on. Live shows are definitely on the cards too. The latter half of 2019 is going to be fun!
