The opening track is an unusual instrumental that could quite easily be mistaken as the score for Jumanji. It’s the last thing you’d expect from an artist most recognised for modernizing Britpop so as you can imagine, this admittedly left me sceptical from the outset.

What follows is a mixed bag of eccentric techno, hints of ‘wannabe’ Prodigy and ‘the one that’ll make the radio’… (feat. Little Simz). It’s clear that Serge has tried to separate himself from Kasabian, as much as humanly possible, but unfortunately, in the making, he’s created something that’s as difficult to like as marmite or brussels sprouts. Change is good, of course, but I’m not sure this is the ‘change’ needed.

Listening, you couldn’t help but feel that if you fell asleep with it playing you’d have some sort of aneurysm. Which is a shame, because you also get the impression that Serge has tried to gift the world something revolutionary here, and to many he may well have, but personally he’s succeeded in creating an album more forgettable than the name of Kasabian’s 4th album. West.. err… paper… what?

Haiku Review:
Eccentric techno?
Not sure about this one Serge,
Stick Kasabian.
