Desert Sessions are like a little playgroup of musicians who come together to crack out some belters. SOME being the keyword. Personal highlights are Crucifire which is a heavier rock tune – elements reminded me of Justin Hawkins and his psychedelic vocal work. Easier Said Than Done traces a sad journey of Metamorphosis and feeling stuck. Poignant. But, it’s like a rollercoaster, right, at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. So not quite Alton Towers. But not the local fair that rolls into town every year and coincides with your shed window being caved in by some little shits from the neighbouring estate (Never forgiven the little bastards).

Anyways, back to the ride. It’s got some good highs but also a fair few lows. For me the mix of genres is confusing and the album lacks real flow. If you hop on to Spotify and look at the record, it has this bit at the bottom which shows the playlists that songs from the album have been included on, and it’s an eclectic mix- we have a Rock playlist to The Indie List, Psychedelic Mixes to an Alt selection.

So Desert Sessions really cover a lot of ground. But, is that good? No, not really. It really does distort the flow of the album for me, it’s way too disjointed. Maybe the next playgroup will get on better…

Haiku Review:
An ecelectic mix,
Drier than the Sahara,
No oasis here.

Listen to Vols. 11 & 12 on Spotify and Apple Music.
