Dutch Uncles’ Robin Richards has made his own doughnut ahead of EP release

He knows his way around a quality song AND a quality dough mixture.

The lead songsmith of Dutch Uncles is called Robin Richards – which I’m half certain is a pseudonym for a superhero’s alter ego – and ahead of releasing his debut EP this Friday, titled Castel, he has decided to give us a sweet early treat.

In collaboration with Siop Shop, a trendy bakery in Manchester, Richards has released his own doughnut, swapping the wholesome roundness of a record for the hole-some roundness of a confectionary. Iwan Roberts, founder at Siop Shop said: “[It’s] a coffee and cardamon custard-filled doughnut with a caramel glaze. We’ve taken inspiration from the Estonian desert Kringel which is a sweet yeasted bread, flavoured with Cardamon.”

Doughnut

In keeping with the EPs central themes, the doughnut mixes Welsh and Estonian influences. Two songs on the record are written and performed entirely in welsh. And, one of them, ‘Cofi’, a word for someone from Caernarfon, uses Gregorian chants. You can find it HERE.

As they say, the proof is in the pudding. So go check it out next time you’re in Manchester – it won’t be around forever!
