Track of the Week: Middle Kids – Questions
Middle Kids have questions, and they want you to hear them. The latest track from this L.A.-based three-piece is a blaring, bouncy bop, with lead singer Hannah Joy’s vocals soaring over an unstoppable acoustic beat. It’s a track that can only be described as satisfying, despite the amount of pondering it contains.
Home Counties – Modern Yuppies
Always thought the word ‘yuppy’ was exclusive to ’80s America and Brett Easton Ellis’ American Psycho. Home Counties have proved me otherwise. Delightfully wacky synth and keyboards lock horns to create a sugar-coated dose of pop.
Luna Shadows – nite swim
‘nite swim’ has Luna Shadows sitting pretty over a glossy beat. Its head-over-heels, too-good-to-be-true lyrics would have you dreaming of a perfect romance if not for its instrumentals. They perfectly tinge the performance, giving you a melancholic but wholly satisfying listen.
Mush – Seven Trumpets
Seven Trumpets is a track for the post-modern daydreamer. A crunchy guitar backing is contrasted by the apocalyptic lyrics that describe obliviously wandering into disaster- a perfect soundtrack for recent years.
Orla Gartland – More Like You
Another brilliant track from the Irish songwriter, who fills her latest track with the usual feelings of nostalgia, loss and melancholy. It’s familiar yet implacable. Recognisable yet mysterious. It’s pretty brilliant, too, so you should check it out.
Pale Waves – Easy
If black roses could sing, Heather’s voice in ‘Easy’ is exactly what they’d sound like. It’s another cool hit from her and the rest of Pale Waves.
