Little Trouble – Better Oblivion Community Centre
Wow. This project can seemingly do no wrong. A ski burner, the bouncing beat and accompanying riff is a slow-started but instantly has you bobbing your head along, before climaxing in an all-encompassing, confident finale. The lyrics are playful as always. We love it.
Barrie – Geology
The last single before their debut album drops is a good one. Barrie get smoother on this number and the excitement only builds for what awaits.
The Mysterines – Gasoline
Oh boy. Crash, bang, head’s gone. This is outrageous. The Liverpudlian band manage to keep it fresh without straying to far away from their first two singles. Lia’s vocal seems more tamed, less angsty, but the lyrics will tell you that’s just a front, the oxymoronic but soon to be anthemic line ‘I just love to hate you’ has become a memorable moment from their live shows, now you’ve got it at the touch of a button.
Cronicle – Fools
Hands-in-the-air, wave ’em like you just don’t care. Cronicle is back with a brand new track and boy does it bang. Euphoric, uplifting, feel-good – everything you want from a pop song. She spoke to us in our new magazine too, so stay tuned for more info on that
Ava Bryant – I Take It All Back
The 15 year-old couldn’t be further away from her Texan root on this number. A punctual pop number that sees the youngster confident, assured and on her way to a tropical island.
Marius Bear – My Crown
With a voice like that, Marius Bear is coming for the crown of the world’s next big male singer-songwriter. Fans of Lewis Capaldi, Rag’n’Bone Man, those lot, they’ll enjoy this, but those who want a bit more grit, heart and soul in their singer should latch onto this one too.
WIVES – Workin’
The New York punkers show off their British punk influences on this one, the almost-spoken word verses reminiscent of the wave of new punk bands emerging on our island at the moment. An Americana sound seeps through eventually, the US-band unable to refrain from letting their roots push through, hints of Bands of Horses even appearing at times to our surprise. Their debut LP is expected to arrive this year, but we recommend you take a punt now.
Sour – Seperate Ways
The band formerly known as Freak are back under a new name with a new track. Sounds a little like Years and Years, definitely a track to stick on your summer soundtracks.
Marika Hackman – I’m Not Where You Are
She is back. Is this her response to Amber Bain’s album-load of break-up songs? Is this Marika’s closure? Sounds like it. It also sounds very good. A subtle synth line will stick in your head whilst the contrast between the upbeat music and her downbeat, melancholic vocal is a dream.
