Ezra Furman – Twelve Nudes
3.8
“Rock’n’roll is dead” is what the old geezers who can’t do rock’n’roll anymore say. They complain as they fade into irrelevance as a small, scrawny man in a dress and lipstick runs riot across the world. You think rock’n’roll is dead? Ezra Furman tells you that you’re so, incredibly wrong.
Twelve Nudes is a bundle of joy. A ferocious confetti canon of garage rock. Lightening in a bottle, it’s short and sharp, using the pop song structure rock’n’roll gave birth to before the charts colonised it. His screeches are sounding better than ever, whilst lyrically Ezra’s poignant and empowering. He’s on a roll, and he’s ‘saving’ rock’n’roll.
As the penultimate track asks, ‘What Can You Do But Rock’n’Roll’?
