THE WEEKLY ROUND-UP 29/03/19

MARINA – Orange Trees
Marina’s revival continues and now we have one half of one half of her upcoming album, Love and Fear. This one is more like the Marina we once knew, a bouncing slice of pop pie that sounds like summer. The ‘Love’ side of her new record is shaping up nicely. It’s intensely positive and

BlackWaters – I’m Not Your Man
It’s rowdy, raucous, lots of shouting. All that kinda stuff that punk is nowadays. If that’s your thing, BlackWaters are your thing.

Ilira – Do It Yourself
Bonnie didn’t need Clyde according to Ilira in this anthem of empowerment. Pulsating pop tropes and booming beats pound through the speaker. Ilira is getting increasingly confident with every release.

Connie Constance – Bloody British Me
Wanna know what it’s like to be British nowadays? Connie encapsulates it perfectly here in what is the standout track off her debut LP.

Orville Peck – Kansas (Remembers Me Now)
It’s an old Western film and for once the fighting and chasing has stopped. The main character finally expresses his love for the girl he’s longed after all film and they slow dance from sunset until sunrise. Beautiful.

Nilufer Yanya – The Unordained
The verses are calm, almost whispering into your ear, you hardly notice it but on several occasions when the impetus changes and your hit with a tidal wave of angelic vocals and equally angelic instrumentals and you realise this is just a classy classy track.

Drugdealer (ft. Weyes Blood) – Honey
A country strum, a twang or two and the angelic vocal of Weyes Blood. It’s an absolutely stunning track. Get in.

Foxygen – Face The Facts
It’s some disco for your corn flakes. Light, groovy and smooth and placed firmly in 1975, it’s a great track from start to finish. Popping rhythms remind you of your mums favourite music, cheesy vintage synths bring out the best in Foxygen. Though less mainstream than livin’ a lie, this new single places them on course for a cracking new album.
