Outer Spaces – I See Her Face
With a vocal as smooth as a summers breeze, a constant looping riff that takes you to that cocktail bar back in Barcelona, this American indie-singer has produced an optimistic track for an evening watching the sunset with a BBQ on the go. The project of Baltimore, singer/songwriter Cara Beth Satalino will release their sophomore record, Gazing Globe, on June 28th.
Mannequin Pussy – Drunk II
A brand of pop-punk which doesn’t make you cringe too hard. The American accent isn’t too in your face and you can tell it ain’t put on. Hallelujah. Without screaming or shouting, the quartet capture the emotion and rage well through ferocious guitar thrashes and relentless strumming which never slows-down for a second. The solo at the end is a nice nostalgic throwback too and well worth sticking around for.
Mini Mansions – Bad Things (That Make You Feel Good)
This is ferocious. Quick, relentless, fierce. There’s a vintage flavour, channelling ‘Johnny B. Goode’ or ‘A Little Less Conversation’ maybe? Either way it’s one of the catchiest things this lot have done. It’ll get you smiling, dancin’, hell, you’re going to lose control of your body when you hear it. Body Type – Uma
A slightly fucked up love song to Uma Thurman, Body Type are screamin’ and shoutin’ their way to the top. With caws reminiscent of our own Cabbage, but with much better lyrical work and a seedy, creepy riff lurking in the background, this sets Body Type apart and shows a nastier side to the Aussie group. Their new EP is out today!
Gnoomes – Glasgow Coma State
A Russian psych-rock outfit with Britpop influences and the ability to tell a story. These lot might be a shoe-in for the next round of Alternate Eurovision. We approve.
Patience – Living Things Don’t Last
‘A battle cry in the face of apathy’… this is a New Order-inspired track with a cut-throat story at the very centre of it. Patience puts on her British accent and coat of arms to stand tall and defiant.
Stef Chura – They’ll Never
This is a song that sounds like Pleasantville once the devil takes over and everyone let’s loose. Her wailing vocal is distinct and unique whilst the whirring surfer riffs have you dreamin’ of a roadtrip.
