Austin chanteuse Molly Burch has announced The Molly Burch Christmas Album – out 15th November via Captured Tracks.
Now, I’m one of those people who hates premature Christmas celebrations. We’ve got Halloween and Bonfire night first for goodness sake. But the best part of the holiday season is undoubtedly the return of Christmas bangers. Over the past few year’s The Killers put out a compilation of their Christmas songs, Wolf Alice’s version of ‘Santa Baby’ brought a ray of sunshine to the snowy season and now, Molly Burch is treating us to a full album.
On the omnibus collection, Burch covers ‘I’ll Be Home for Christmas’ and ‘Auld Lang Syne’ as well as heartland hits like Dolly Parton’s ‘Hard Candy Christmas’ and ‘Snowqueen of Texas’ by The Mamas & The Papas and a pair of originals. On the playful, joyous cover of Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’ Burch is joined by two special guests: actors cum comedians John Early (Search Party, Wet Hot American Summer) and Kate Berlant (Sorry to Bother You, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) who add a blithe intro and backing vocals throughout.
Creating a holiday album was a foregone conclusion for the singer who would perform in college with the Lonely Christmas Band at her legendary annual Christmas party. The album was recorded by Will Patterson (Sleep Good, RF Shannon, Jesse Woods) and Jarvis Taveniere (Woods, Martin Courtney, Purple Mountains) in Austin, TX and Los Angeles, CA.
