Sorry

The Round-Up (27/03/20)

Track of the Week: Sorry – As The Sun Sets
Real desert isolation music. I close my eyes to this song and picture an abandoned Australian outback, beer in hand, rocking on a chair. Bliss separationism, a welcome change from the early dirge-y singles.

April – New Conditions
‘New Conditions’ is a lo-fi mad high. The song is about having an unhealthy infatuation with someone, to the point that you forget who you are and what you’re doing with your life. It’s a ‘dark love song’ as April calls it. Slow, airy, dreamy, [insert whatever adjective relating to space here], and it’s brilliant. Give it a spin.

BELAKO – The Craft
It’s good. It’s very good. A real foot-tapper. You can just taste its influence of the 90s classic movie of the same name; its rawness being as magical as the witches it’s based on. If Nancy Downs could listen to this now, we just know it’d be on her badass playlist.

Hannah Ashcroft – Under The Static
Whilst static itself can be a right pain for your ears, this track is a gentle folky escape. Ashcrofts voice is so soft, its a comforting hum, floating alongside the electric guitar like butter on toast. It’s tracks like this that prove why we love the music in Manchester.

Jenevieve – Baby Powder
I know you lot are stuck in your living rooms but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a boogie. Try this one on for size and have a dance in your PJs.

Katie Von Schleicher – Nowhere
Who knew melancholy pop could sound so … joyous? Von Schleicher’s latest has the ambience of an M83 track blended into a warmness you could just reach out and touch.

Melenas – No Puedo Pensar
A track as mesmerising as the music video. In these days of doom and gloom, you’ll need their sun kissed Spanish lyrics and elements of dream pop to get ya through. ¡Amo tanto esta canción!

Pozi – Whitewashing
Car journeys are usually great. You can tune in and tune out with some music, have a nice convo or simply watch the world go by your window. It’s not great, however, if you share the car with an arsehole. Then it’s basically social prison. ‘Whitewashing’ is that exact scenario, it’s about sharing a car with an old mate who’s bought into the Tommy Robinson army, and has started spouting bigoted shite down your ears whilst you naughtily undertake a Ford Fiesta hogging the middle lane. Moral of the story? Stay safe out there, and don’t give lifts to twats.

Squid – Sludge
A heavy, bass driven, infectious tune. Sounds as if it could be belted out at a rave or a punk gig and not be out of place, proper mad. We named them in our class of 2020, and so far it looks like they’re going to be our valedictorian if they keep producing tracks like this.

Spoort – Self
What a wicked debut. If Jungle kept their sound but became a garage-rock band it would be these guys, a fantastic hip-hop beat to suit.

Warm Digits – Shake The Wheels Off (ft. The Orielles)
It seems like every week Warm Digits are blessing us here at The Rodeo, and this week is no exception. Featuring our Vol. 7 interviewees The Orielles, this track screams neon lights and an all-around disco, with gauzy vocals and an electro beat to get you moving your feet. If you want to party, this is the perfect tune.
